How to Play PlayStation Light Gun Games on Meta Quest 3 - Point Blank 3

by Just Smoke.me on February 21, 2025

Relive the golden era of PlayStation light gun games inside your VR headset! With the Meta Quest 3, SideQuest, and ePSXe, you can bring classic arcade shooting experiences back to life. Follow this guide to set up everything you need. In this tutorial we set up 'Point Blank 3'

What You’ll Need First!

  • Meta Quest 3 headset & USB Cable
  • PC with SideQuest installed
  • ePSXe emulator (APK) not (EXE)
  • PlayStation game ROMs & Bios

Installing the playstation Emulator & Setting Up Folders

  1. Put on your Meta Quest 3 and connect it to your PC using a USB 3.0 or higher cable to ensure a stable connection.
  2. Open SideQuest on your PC.
  3. Create a new folder inside your Quest 3’s storage and name it ePSXe.
  4. Drag and drop the ePSXe APK file into this folder.
  5. Put your headset back on and navigate to the ePSXe APK file you just transferred.
  6. Open the file to begin installation. Since it’s an APK, it will automatically set up with a user interface.
  7. When prompted, select the installation file to be the epsx folder you created earlier on
  8. Next it'll ask you if the installer should create the folders necessary for the emulator... select “Yes” to allow the installer to create the necessary emulator folders. (If you accidentally skip this step, uninstall the app and start over.)
  9. Once the emulator opens after installation, close it and take off your headset.
  10. Return to your PC - Drag & drop your PlayStation BIOS file (required for emulation) and place it inside the BIOS folder
  11. Inside the ePSXe folder, create a new folder called Games—this is where you’ll store your PlayStation game files.
  12. Drag and drop your game ISO file into the Games folder.

That’s it—your emulator is now installed, and your files are organized for easy access in the next steps!

Setting up the Meta Quest 3 controllers for Light Gun Games

1. Put on your Meta Quest 3 and open the ePSXe emulator.

2. Navigate to the Settings & open the Input tab

3. Locate the Main Controller dropdown menu (sometimes labeled Controller0).

4. Click the dropdown to view available controller input options.

5. Look for and select either Namco Gun or Light Gun mode. (The name may vary, but these are the options you need.)

6. After selecting the light gun option, you should see A & B buttons appear on the sides of the screen.

7. Your VR controllers will now function as light guns, allowing you to aim and shoot.

Extra : Troubleshooting and Tips

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

1. The emulator can't find my BIOS file.

✅ Solution: Make sure the BIOS file is inside the BIOS folder in the ePSXe directory. Use SideQuest to check and move it if necessary.

2. The emulator loads the PlayStation startup screen but not my game.

✅ Solution: Your game ISO might be from a different region than the BIOS you’re using. Ensure your BIOS and game match in region: Europe, USA, or Asia.

3. I can’t shoot anything when I start the game.

✅ Solution: Light gun games require you to use the A & B buttons on-screen to navigate menus. Just like classic arcade light guns, you need to shoot these buttons to proceed.

4. My screen is small and in portrait mode.

✅ Solution: This is an easy fix—drag the screen to resize it before playing. Do not resize the screen while a game is running.

5. My tracking keeps going off.

✅ Solution: Always resize the screen before calibrating your gun in-game. If you resize it afterward, the gun will be out of sync. If this happens, simply close and reopen the emulator to reset tracking.

6. ePSXe is not showing up in my headset.

✅ Solution: Double-check that you downloaded the APK file, not an EXE file. APKs are for Android devices like the Meta Quest 3, while EXEs are for PCs.
